Miss Pretoria, Melinda Bam has been crowned Miss South Africa 2011 at a glittering event held at the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday night 11 December 2011.
Melinda Bam is an official representative of South Africa at the Miss Universe 2012 which is the 61st edition of Miss Universe beauty contest which will be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on Wednesday night of 19th December, 2012.
Melinda Bam beat the other 11 contestants from across the country with her poise, personality and golden beauty. She believes she has the motivation, ambition and confidence to become an inspiring ambassador to South Africa and the youth of South Africa.
Melinda Bam says (in her own words), “Defying the stigma that beauty queens are only pretty faces stimulates me.”
Melinda Bam had withdrawn from Miss World 2012 beauty pageant. She said that She was completely focused on winning the Miss Universe beauty contest.
The 1st runner-up is Remona Moodley (22) from Cape Town who is studying Electrical Engineering at UCT, while the 2nd runner-up is Thuli Sangweni (21) from Johannesburg who is currently studying an IMM Marketing degree.
As part of the winner’s prize package, Malinda Bam will drive away in a Ford Focus 1.6 Trendline sponsored by Barloworld Motors, and receives hair care for the year of her reign from L’Oreal Professional and Gary Rom Hairdressing services, as well as make up from Iman Cosmetics, Camelot Spa beauty and body spa treatments, shoes from Europa Art and clothing from Cameroon and complimentary dry cleaning services from Exclusive Dry Cleaners.
She also wins a coveted Jet Set Diamond watch she will also be able to select another 3 watches to accessorise her wardrobe. Jet Set Watches also sponsors an all-expenses paid trip to Paris.
Melinda wins a holiday at the luxurious Royal Livingstone Hotel, Sun International’s Victoria Falls property in Zambia and personal imaging, social skills and etiquette training from Professional Impressions. She will be limousine driven in style by Lux Limos and Avis Car Hire will provide complimentary car hire during 2012. Varsity College awards Melinda an educational bursary and she will also receive a bursary for the charity of her choice. She has also won a Blackberry Bold, 12 months of airtime and a 40″ LCD, PVR Decoder & 12 months DSTV subscription.<
After winning the title Miss South Africa 2011, Malinda Bam said, “I don’t need time to map my year forward, I will just jump in and swim… I now look forward to meeting the expectations of people who will meet me and expect the best of me.”
Pretorian beauty, Malinda said, “From 2009, I’ve been gearing myself for this moment… and the past six months have prepared me for this. The six months, during which a reality show was aired and during which the judges criticized them, had given her a chance to perfect her act. I was able to consult and work on my flaws.”
